There will be a Halkin dinner on Wednesday 3 May 2023 when we are pleased to welcome David Bowers and Ian Harnett, co-founders of Absolute Strategy Research.

David Bowers is Head of Research at Absolute Strategy Research (ASR), Europe’s leading independent investment-strategy consultancy that he co-founded with Dr Ian Harnett in 2006.

ASR provides independent investment-strategy and asset-allocation research to institutional investors, wealth managers, and family offices from around the world. In addition to publishing regular investment-strategy and economic reports, the firm specialises in close partnerships with its clients through regular presentations, innovative chart decks, and bespoke research.

David is responsible for ASR’s quarterly Asset Allocation Survey (now in its eighth year) of chief investment officers and asset allocators, a unique product for mapping how investors view the outlook for financial markets. His firm has just launched an initiative to focus on the implications of climate-transition policies on long-term investment returns.

Previously, David was the chief Global investment strategist for Merrill Lynch, where he worked for eleven years – including three years in New York. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch, he was the chief European equity strategist at UK broker Smith New Court.

Ian Harnett is Chief Investment Strategist at Absolute Strategy Research (ASR).

Ian focuses on Global Economics, Asset Allocation and Strategy, with over 25 years of experience in economics and equity strategy, having previously been Chief European Investment Strategist at UBS (where he was #1 Extel ranked for European Strategy).

He also led European Strategy for NatWest Markets and was Group Chief Economist for Société Generale London.

Ian started his career as an Economist at the Bank of England and has a Doctorate in Economics from Oxford University. Ian is a regular contributor to both CNBC and Bloomberg TV as well as a regular author of “Insight” columns for the Financial Times. Ian is also well known as a Conference Speaker, both for his highly acclaimed Economics and Strategy presentations as well as his participation in high level ‘panel’ debates.
