Bob Catto
Robert (Bob) James Wilson Catto passed away on 21st March 2020 after a brave battle with cancer.
Bob started his career in the Birmingham Stock Exchange in 1967. Following the amalgamation of the provincial exchanges in 1972 he moved to London and subsequently joined Kitkat & Aitken to take advantage of the growth in International Bond Markets and the abolition of Exchange Control. His broking career began in 1993 when he joined Williams de Broe (WdB). Since 1999 he specialised in the Natural Resource Sector with a focus on the junior gold and oil stocks. He served as a director of the AIM VCT 2 from 2002 until 2007. In 2011, WdB was acquired by Evolution Securities and subsequently by Investec. He left his position as senior investment director in June 2016 after five years under the Investec umbrella, joining Hobart Capital Markets LLP.
Bob was a founder director of Halkin Services from 2002 and enriched us with his enthusiasm, experience, wit and innumerable corporate and financial market connections. Bob introduced the Halkin network to dozens of proprietors and senior executives in the fields of energy, mining and technology, who accepted his invitations to speak at our regular lunches and dinners. Bob knew everybody. He was a remarkable man and we are greatly saddened by his passing.
